A broad understanding of the principles underlying
the structure of music is indispensable to the
successful musician. Therefore, a thorough
knowledge or theory, harmony and counterpoint is
insisted upon as of the utmost importance, the
success of the artist and teacher in many
instances depending upon his understanding of
these essentials in music.
Harmony and counterpoint
are presented with particular regard to thier
application to practical uses.
The course in harmony
embraces a careful study of intervals, scales,
triads and the harmonization of melodies based
upon a thorough comprehension of the proper
construction and connection of all chords.
Two, three and four part counterpoint in the five
species, and free counterpoint follow the
completion of the harmony course.
