Courses of Study

FIRST YEAR

SECOND YEAR POST-GRADUATE

REGULAR COURSE -- EXPRESSION

SECOND YEAR

      Divided into three terms corresponding to those of the first year.
   Dramatic Art --  platform art -- impersonation -- gesture.
   Preparation of Lyceum and Chautauqua programs.
   Presentation of original cuttings for practice and criticism.
   Extemporaneous speaking.
   Story telling.
   Bible reading.
   Study and presentation of one-act plays before literary societies.
   Advanced study of selections from great masterpieces.
   Shakespeare -- three plays selected from the following group for class study and analysis:  Hamlet, Macbeth, Merchant of Venice, King Lear, Julius Caesar, Othello, Richard III, As You Like It, Twelfth Night.
   Extracts from the works of Robert Browning, Tennyson, Stephen Phillips, Israel Zangwill, Maeterlinck, Dickens, and Isben.
   Recital practice.
   Platform reading and recitation for individual criticism continued daily throughout the whole year.
