October 9, 2025 WHISKY SAVED HIS LIFE.
Aconite Failed to Take Effect on Lawyer William Grady. Aconite failed to kill William Grady, an attorney, yesterday noon, because whisky is an antidote for the poison. Dr. G. A. Dagg, with the Walnut Street police ambulance, was called to the Grady home, 1627 Cottage, and found the young attorney had taken several ounces of aconite, supposedly with suicidal intent. It had only failed to kill because the man's system was heavily charged with alcohol. Patrolman Prewitt, who accompanied the ambulance, brought a stretcher into Grady's presence to carry him to a hospital, and the patient's condition improved quickly. A family doctor who arrived then agreed to take full charge of the patient, and as the doctors agreed that the poison's power had been offset, he was allowed to remain home.Labels: alcohol, attorney, Cottage street, doctors, poison, Suicide, Walnut street police station
June 29, 2025 AN ICE WAGON WAS UPSET.
The Driver Fell to the Ground and Was Severely Hurt. The upsetting of an ice cream wagon last night at Cottage and Vine streets brought sever injuries to W. H. Coen, the driver, 55 years old. The team ran away, two wheels passing over Coen's stomach. A half block away the team was caught.
Mr. Coen had started to make too short a turn and cramped the wagon until it toppled over on two wheels. But it toppled back when the driver fell from the seat.
Dr. R. G. Dagg, ambulance surgeon from the Walnut street police station, attended Coen's injuries and took him to his home at 1220 Troost avenue. He has a number of body bruises and may be injured internally.Labels: accident, Cottage street, doctors, ice, Troost avenue, Vine street, Walnut street police station
