Moses Thurston Runnels, a physician who has acquired a
large practice in Kansas City, and a man of more than ordinary
attainments, was born December 26, 1849, in Licking County,
Ohio. He was reared on a farm, and was educated at Oberlin,
where he attended four years.
He began the study of medicine under his
brother, Dr. O. S. Runnels, of Indianapolis, Ind., and in 1874
completed a course in the Cleveland Homeopathic Hospital College,
which distinguished him with several prizes and positions of
honor. His practice of medicine was begun at Franklin,
Ind. After eighteen months he took post-graduate courses in New
York city, and returned to become the partner of his brother at
Indianapolis, with whom he was associated until 1884.
In June, 1885, he came to Kansas City, where,
besides attending to his practice, he occupies chairs in several
medical colleges, and has contributed largely to the literature of
medicine.
Dr. Runnels was married in Indianapolis, to
Miss Emily Lamb Johnson. Three children were born to them, two
of whom are living.
