near Oswego, New York. He attended the district school, and
later on went to the State Normal School. After his graduation
he taught school for a couple of years, but in 1992 gave up pedagogy,
and came to Kansas City, where he engaged in the real estate
business. He is now a member of the firm of Hicks &
Gallagher.
Always a Democrat, Mr. Gallagher has taken a
leading part in politics ever since coming to Kansas City, having
served for ten years as a member of the Democratic County
Committee. He is now chairman of the County Committee, and his
conduct of the recent campaign was largely responsible for the
brilliant Democratic victory.
In 1902 he was appointed City Comptroller by
Mayor Reed, the place being the first political office ever held by
him.
He was married June 12, 1887, to Miss Kittie
Burns, of Oswego, N. Y. They have five children, Burns, Grace,
Harry, Laura, and Louise.
Mr. Gallagher is a Modern Woodman, and a
