Page One.

Anay Webster's Chocolate Cake.

Two eggs, one and a half cups sugar, three-fourths cup butter, three-fourths cup sweet milk, two cups flour, one teaspoonful Hewson's Triple Extract Vanilla, one and a half teaspoonfuls French Baking Powder.  Bake in jelly tins.

FILLING. -- Five tablespoonsful grated chocolate, enough milk to dissolve it, one cup sugar, one egg, one teaspoonful Hewson's Triple Vanilla.  Heat all over the fire, and when cool spread between and on top.

 

Anay Webster's Delicate Cake.

One cup butter, two cups white sugar, four and a quarter cups flour, one cup sweet milk, whites eight eggs, one teaspoonful Hewson's Triple Extract, three tablespoonsful French Baking Powder.

 

Anay Webster's Jelly Cake.

Three eggs, one and a half cups white sugar, one half cup butter, half cup sweet milk, one and a half cups flour, half cup corn starch, one and a half teaspoonfuls French Baking Powder.  Bake in tins and spread jelly between.

 

Anay Webster's Sallie Lun.

One scant quart flour, four eggs, half cup butter, half cup lard, one cup sweet milk, four teaspoonfuls French Baking Powder.  Mix the butter, lard and yolks of eggs together, then add the milk, after which the flour and Baking Powder, sifted together, lastly the whites of eggs well beaten.

 

Anay Webster's White Mountain Icing or Cake.

Whites nine eggs, three-fourth cup butter, one and three-fourth cups sugar, three-fourths of a cup of sweet milk, one and three-fourth cups flour, three-fourths cup corn starch, one teaspoonful Hewson's Triple Extract, two teaspoonfuls French Baking Powder.  Baked in four sheets.

ICING. -- Whites four eggs beaten to a stiff froth, gradually add eleven tablespoonsful pulverized sugar, beat well, and spread between and on top.

 

Apple Puffetts.

Two eggs, one pint of milk, sufficient flour to thicken as waffle batter, one and a half teaspoonfuls of Hewson's French Baking Powder, fill teacup alternately with a layer of batter and then of apples chopped fine, steam one hour; serve hot with flavored cream and sugar.  You can substitute any fresh fruit or jams you like.
