Dissolve soda in sour cream.
Add egg, sugar, salt and beat
well. Add enough flour to
make a batter of the consistency
of cake batter. Melt
butter. Add to mixture,
and bake in well oiled 9" layer
pans at 400 F. about 25 minutes.
Split and butter while hot.
Slice strawberries, add sugar,
and cover with heavy cream.
Pour over bottom half of
shortcake, add top half, add
more berries, and serve at once.
This cake is not spongy, but is
of a waxy consistency and does
not absorb the fruit juice and
cream. |
